Working on a Unicorn: Servicing the rare 1 of 2 street legal Gumpert Apollo.

It’s not every day you get your hands on a Gumpert Apollo — one of the rarest, rawest bespoke supercars ever built. This street legal racecar needed some serious attention, and what followed was a full rear-end teardown worthy of a top level racing teams pit crew.

In order to complete the full service & repairs needed our team had to pull the entire rear section off this Apollo: rear axles, custom sequential gearbox, and yes, even the mid-mounted twin-turbo Audi 4.2L V8 (based on the old Audi RS6 engine) all of it had to come out. Why? The timing belt needing to be replaced was buried deep behind the mid plate with no access without removal, and the additional belt it needed? Turns out it was a specially made and no longer available for the external oil pump. So yep, we had to get a custom one made.

After 2.5 months, with No manuals. No diagrams. No ChrisFix tutorials to assist us. Just pure skills and experience, we got this Gumpert back to race ready. Which is crazy to think when an Audi dealership took 7 months just to complete a fuel pump, basic oil change, and clutch fluid service on this prior while also using the incorrect oil and wrong DOT clutch fluid.

We're just glad to get this unicorn the quality service and care it deserved — all under one Haus.
