When Legends Meet: EVO I & EVO II at the Haus
Every once in a while, something truly special happens at the shop—something that makes every car enthusiast’s inner child light up. Recently, the Haus had the pleasure of hosting a mini photoshoot that brought together two absolute icons of Mercedes-Benz motorsport history: a genuine, homologated 190E EVO II and our very own sponsored 190E EVO I build, owned by none other than Josh Benjamin, better known in the community as @AMG_Josh.
If you know your classic Euro cars, you already understand why this was such a goosebumps moment. The 190E EVO series represents the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz’s DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft) era—machines bred from motorsport, built to meet homologation requirements, and engineered with the kind of obsessive precision that defined an entire generation of performance sedans.
The Backstory of Our EVO I Build
Josh’s EVO I build didn’t start life as an EVO I. It began as one of just 700 factory 190E Sportline LE (Limited Edition) models—a rare and highly desirable version in its own right, known for its upgraded suspension, unique trim, and performance-focused setup. From there, it underwent a professional transformation into a full EVO I spec, complete with the wider fenders, aggressive aerodynamics, and period-correct details that make it a faithful tribute to one of Mercedes’ most iconic touring cars. The end result is a car that bridges rarity with homage—keeping its limited-edition DNA while wearing the EVO I’s legendary motorsport suit. We also have big plans for a very special engine build tributing yet another rare 190e Spec, brake upgrades, and some other race derived add ons to make this EVO 1 a true track weekend warrior. Stay tuned for more of that.
The EVO II Arrival
Then came the EVO II in 1990—the ultimate evolution. With its towering rear wing, refined aero package, 17-inch wheels, and even sharper chassis tuning, it was a no-compromise track car for the street. Only 502 were ever produced, each a certified homologation model. So, when an original, untouched EVO II rolled up to our shop, it felt like a motorsport time capsule had just arrived at our door. Huge thank you to local car enthusiast Nick Kingsley for bringing this beauty by the shop.
Why We Love Them
Here at Haus of Euro, we have a soft spot for these classic Euros. They represent an era when performance cars were built with an almost obsessive dedication to engineering purity—raw, analog, and absolutely driver-focused. Every line, vent, and flare on an EVO serves a purpose, and the connection they give you to the road is something modern cars rarely replicate.
Seeing our professionally built EVO I and the genuine EVO II together wasn’t just a photoshoot—it was a celebration of history, passion, and craftsmanship. It reminded us why we do what we do: preserving, enjoying, and showcasing the machines that made us fall in love with cars in the first place.
Two legends. One shop. One unforgettable day.
